The Year 2009 at Old Parish Church

OPC Hosts Community Services Conference

Almost three dozen residents of Weston and nearby towns gathered on April 9, 2009, at Old Parish Church to begin identifying unmet community needs and to explore how best to meet them.  The group included representatives of various community organizations, and the session was lead by the Rev. Jon Bliss, OPC Board Chair Adrian Max and facilitator Nancy Perry.

The group decided to begin by gathering additional information and exploring a structure that would improve awareness and coordination of existing community services.  Those people wishing to be on the distribution list for further information are asked to e-mail Adrian Max at amax@iwon.com or call him at 802-875-8750.

Among those at the meeting were (left to right): Standing - Adrian Max, Nancy Perry, Pam Seegraber, Dave Peters, Gloria Dawson, Bill Seegraber, and Dave Raymond. Kneeling - Marguerite Mason and Jon Bliss.  (Barbara Raymond photo)
Easter Morning
Once again, on Easter morning, Rev. Jon Bliss led some 45 hardy (and early rising) souls in prayer and song at the Walker Bridge in OPC's annual Sunrise Ceremony. The sun proved shy, and and lurked behind a cloud, so the group proceeded to the Rod & Gun Club for a tasty breakfast.
Clean-up Day
On May 16, a clean-up crew assembled to give the Old Parish Church its annual Spring spruce-up.
Wingate Picnic
Once again, on a chilly July 19, Frank and Ann Wingate invited the OPC family to their lovely lakeside abode for an afternoon that included a delicious barbeque, fun in and and around the water and a demonstration of synchronized kayaking.

G. Frederick Zeller
1929-2009
On May 23, 2009, the Old Parish Church was filled to capacity with family, friends and well-wishers who had come to say farewell to G.Frederick ("Fritz") Zeller, long a pillar of the OPC community. His acts of caring as educator, coach and counselor, as father and husband, as friend and neighbor were lovingly recalled by a succession of speakers. For many years, Fritz's steady gaze, his gentle smile and his firm handshake greeted everyone who entered the Old Parish Church and they came to symbolize the welcome that the OPC extends to all. He will not be forgotten.
Alison Hale
On August 23d, flautist Alison Hale accompanied the choir and congregation in their musical pieces and added some melodious interludes on her own.
Amelia and Henry
Heather and Christian Brown's twins, Amelia and Henry, were baptized at the Old Parish Church on Saturday, September 4. The next morning, the ceremony was reprised before the congregation during the Sunday Service.
Everyone in the family (especially Lefa) - and the choir - appear to approve wholeheartedly.
Blessing of the Animals
The annual Blessing of the Animals was conducted as part of the October 25 service. As all of the blessees were of the feline or canine variety (no alpacas, calves, yaks or unicorns this year), the ceremony took place inside the Church. The ceremony and the service were enhanced by music and song provided by Erik Johansson.
Webmaster's note: I have tools to remove "red eye". Does anyone know anything about "blue eye"?
